Letting in Light New Cover!!!

The lovely Emma Davies has changed the cover to her book Letting in Light.

What do you think?

I think it reflects the book perfectly. I'm currently half way through.  I would have read more but the kids hijacked my Kindle and its now in my partners car who is not home!!!

The book blurb -

Rowan Hill. Come first out of curiosity, explore as a guest, return as a friend.

When Ellie arrives at Rowan Hill all she wants is peace and quiet and a place to lick her wounds, but fate it would seem has other things in mind for her.

Firstly there’s Will, who has a reputation for being a humourless grumpy loner; things would be perfect if everyone would just leave him and his estate alone. Is he just plain grumpy, or is it the big fat secret he’s keeping that makes him act the way he does?

Then there’s Finn, who's drop dead gorgeous, but who ran away from his past. He’s now planning a return home to Rowan Hill, and although he knows Will’s secret, he’s not about to tell Ellie. Is it loyalty to his brother that keeps him quiet, or perhaps it's just that he has a few secrets of his own?

The perfect solution for all of them is staring Ellie in the face, trouble is she’s been accused of meddling before. Her vision for Rowan Hill could be just what everyone needs, so should she follow her heart or her head?

As Ellie puts her plans to save Rowan Hill into action, romance and friendships blossom, however the complications of the past are never far away, and a shocking revelation soon threatens their hopes for the future. Suddenly the beliefs they once held true become the biggest obstacle they have to overcome. Will Ellie find the courage to learn from the truth and finally let a little light into all their lives.

After all, life, like art, is all about perception, and sometimes it just depends on your point of view….

Point Horror Club Part 3 - Trick or Treat - Plus Halloween special pictures & chat.

Trick or Treat (Point Horror, #6)
Trick Or Treat Richie Tankersley Cusick

Martha knew there was something evil about the house she was moving into. It was so cold...and creepy. And it wasn't just the house that was giving her a weird feeling. Martha was sure someone was following her...watching her every move.

Then the practical jokes began--the scarecrow with the carving knife in its head, the fire. And the phone calls: 'Trick or Treat, Martha...you're dead.'

It was October, but these were no Halloween tricks. Someone would be coming home this year with more than just a bag of treats. And Martha was the prize. Trick or Treat"

I enjoyed this point horror book. I vividly remembered the title & cover but not the actual story. I liked the build up to Halloween although for me I would have liked more references as I'm a big Halloween fan (more on that later). I felt for a large chunk of the book it could have been any time of year. As with many teen books I always find the parents absence odd particularly in this book. You move your daughter from Chicago to a small town & a house she's never seen, enrol her at a school she's never visited & then go on honeymoon & leave her in the care of a stepbrother she doesn't know & is only 1 year older. Good parenting!!! ha ha!!!

I liked the build up although think we never really got the background on Martha. We know her Dad thinks she has an over active imagination but no explanation & nothing is really said of the fact her mum died 2 years ago. Throughout the book you are drawn to doubting Connor & Blake but I thought this too obvious & Greg was my killer. I really liked the ending although think it needed a epilogue.

Did you guess? Have you read this Point Horror before?

Halloween Special

I absolutely love Halloween but was not aware of its origins so decided to search.  Most websites have a lot of waffle but basically it appears to be the eve of a major Catholic festival, All Saints (1st November) and the eve of the pagan Celtic festival known as Samhain.
The three days between 31st October and 2nd November see pagan and Christian celebrations intertwined and is about superstition , religious belief and nowadays all the fun associated with dressing up, trick or treating and ghosts!!!! Oooooooh!!!!

Bonfires also became associated with Halloween in the past as a way to frighten the spirits away and a way to get through the long dark winters.  In England bonfires are now largely on 5th November Bonfire Night and most towns have firework displays to celebrate the anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot of 1605.

In the past I've had Halloween parties but only moved house 4 weeks ago so this year will be quieter.  My children also usually go trick or treating but we don't know our new neighbours & area yet so am not sure if we will still be participating.  I will still be carving my pumpkins and getting some treats in for any kids that knock at the door.

They do a Halloween week.  We went back in 2010 & luckily had brilliant weather. It was decorated with pumpkins and ghosts, was fairly quiet and my daughter loved it.  It is primarily for under 10's and for a theme park is quite reasonable priced.  We've been a few times now.  It could do with a bit of an update paint wise but is a lovely site for young ones.
There is also a site in Warrington & Matlock Bath.

On the 8th November we are going to our local Bonfire night which will be fun. There's a mini funfair, hotdogs, hog roast and my daughter is thrilled they will be serving pancakes.  My son who is not so keen on the noise of fireworks will be wearing ear defenders which is a fab idea I only thought of recently following a visit to an air show ( Thank you Abrahams) & him disliking the noise!!!

Happy Halloween Everyone!!!!
